A roof year in Anchorage

The same house through four seasons. Each one brings its own roof trouble, and each one ends with the estimate that fits it.

The same house in October, a thin first snow on the roof and yellow birch leaves on the ground
Freeze-up

Freeze-up

October to November

The first snow finds every loose shingle and open seam. Fix them now, before the roof is buried until April.

Worth a look now

  • Shingles lifting or curling at the edges
  • Granules collecting in the gutters
  • Flashing pulled away from the chimney or vents

Deep winter

Deep winter

December to February

Ice dams, long icicles and drips by the windows. Heat leaks into the attic, the snow melts, and the cold edge freezes it into a dam.

Worth a look now

  • Icicles longer than your arm at the eaves
  • A ridge of ice along the roof edge
  • Water stains near outside walls or windows

Breakup

Breakup

March to April

Melt water looks for a way in, and that is when most leaks show up. It is also the time to book summer roof work.

Worth a look now

  • Drips that start when the sun is on the roof
  • A ceiling stain that grows after a warm day
  • Shingles that came down with the snow

Roof season

Roof season

May to September

Long light for tear-offs, new roofs and flat torch-down roofs. Plan it in spring and it gets done while the weather holds.

Worth a look now

  • A roof past twenty years old
  • Patches on top of patches
  • A flat roof that holds water after rain

Where
Anchorage, from the shop in South Anchorage
Is the estimate free?

Yes. Call or text (907) 345-6670 and set up a free estimate.

Do you fix small problems, or only do whole roofs?

Both. A leak, a few missing shingles or a whole worn-out roof. Tell us what you see and you will hear what makes sense.

Who will I talk to?

The owner. Frontier Roofing is owner-run.

Can a roof be fixed in winter?

Some repairs can be done in winter and some are better done when it warms up. Send a photo and we will tell you which one yours is.

What causes ice dams?

Heat escaping into the attic melts the snow on the roof. The water runs down and freezes again at the cold edge, and that ridge of ice can push water back under the shingles.

Do you do flat roofs?

Yes, torch-down and rubber roofs for flat and low-slope roofs.

Do you do work other than roofing?

Yes. Frontier is also a general construction company. Tell us about your project.
